Below is a look at the 5 most popular solutions for premature ejaculation. I have included pros and cons to consider before you decide to try them. At the bottom of the page I will let you know what I chose to solve my PE and why it worked for me.
1. Desensitization Creams: Creams dull the sensation on the penis to help delay ejaculation. Applied a short time before intercourse, these creams are wiped off when your penis has lost enough sensation to help you delay ejaculation.
Pro's: They make you last longer
Con's: They desensitize you from feeling so you are not enjoying intercourse and they may provide the female with adverse reactions during intercourse such as burning or numbness.
2. Sex Therapy: counseling or talk therapy, involves talking with a mental health provider about your relationships and experiences. These talk sessions can help you reduce performance anxiety or find effective ways of coping with stress and solving problems.
Pro's: This has had positive results in numerous men suffering from PE since it is thought that PE is a mainly psychological problem
Con's: Therapy is costly and it is embarrassing to talk openly to a stranger about sexual disorders.
Pro's: They are over the counter and generally inexpensive.
Con's: There are no scientific studies to prove they work. It is said that the confidence you gain from thinking the pill works cures you from the performance anxiety you had so the question remains if the meds work or is it the confidence gained from taking it?
4. Anti depressants: A side effect of certain antidepressants is delayed orgasm. Doctors suggest that men who have premature ejaculation can take antidepressants to benefit from this specific side effect.
Pro's: Side effects state that your orgasm can be delayed.
Con's: Usually more expensive and often come with other, more serious side effects
5. Penile Implants: While primarily used for ED, implants have been known to decrease sensitivity which can help for men suffering from PE.
Pro's: You can cure PE, ED, and size issues with implants
Con's: Expensive with more risk and recovery time
Now before you go out and begin buying creams and taking antidepressants, consider this: Premature Ejaculation is considered a psychological disorder, why subject yourself to treatments that cost money that may not work?
Oh sure you can see a sex therapist, but who wants to pay a stranger money to listen to their embarrassing secrets?
I didn't want to either but I didn't want to spend a fortune on remedies that weren't proven to cure anything. I did the same thing as you are, I went online and did my research and found the above options available to me. Nothing seemed like a cure all EXCEPT the therapist, but if I can't even admit my disorder to my own family doctor that I have been seeing for years, there was NO WAY I was going to admit it to a complete stranger!
So what did I do?
I sought out home therapy. I ran across a book written by sex therapist Matt Gordon specifically for men suffering from PE who didn't want the "quick" solution (no pun intended) to solving our disorders.
Did you know that out of the 4-5 million men in America that suffer from a sexual disorder, only 5% actually do anything about it? Matt understood that many of us do not feel comfortable speaking about our problems in the bedroom. That's why he put together a training guide. It allowed me to read through at my own pace discreetly from my own home.
His book taught me that medications and creams are only short term cures to a lifelong problem. To permanently change our situation we must first change our frame of thought.
From him I learned how to gain mental control, refocus my thought patterns, and not succumb to physical feelings. I also learned about hormone regulation, breathing techniques and exercises to do that will all help me PE problem.
The book was fairly easy to understand and not very expensive, especially considering the cost of the alternatives above. I am glad that I tried this before I wasted my time with any temporary solutions, I saved a lot of money and grief!
Now I am happy to say that I have overcome my PE. I'll be honest, every so often I have minor relapses but that's the best part of having this book, I can just go back to it and reread the techniques to make sure I am staying focused and utilizing what I've learned.
Finally I look forward to going to bed at night, and my wife does too.
